    Obadiah – Messiah

Obadiah 1. The word “saviours” in verse 21 is really “Messiah”, in the plural. The word Messiah is used almost 30 times in the Old Testament, where it is translated “save”, “saviour” or “deliver”. It usually describes either God Himself, or His appointed representative or representatives, as it does here.

    Obadiah – Edom

The end of Obadiah fixes the events describes at the time of Christ’d return. The  confederacy of v7 is presumably that of Ezekiel 38, etc, who have their own motives & deceive the Edomites into assisting. Interestingly, Edom covered an area south of the dead sea now occupied by Israel & Jordan.

Obadiah – the people of Edom

Obadiah prophesies against Edom, whose name is similar to Adam, both relating to the colour red, indicating flesh, and sin.

Edom is not a nation today, & seems to symbolise Esau-like men (Esau was the father of the Edomites), spiritual seed of the serpent, who will oppose Christ. Our deliverance is near!
